Over the years I’ve seen hundreds of patients of all ages work successfully with their families to control their OCD. I’ve included many of these stories in my books Getting Control and The Imp of the Mind. Recently I asked some of my recent patients to email me some success stories. Here are just a couple:
“I simply explained the whole phenomena and they understood as best they could that I wasn’t myself at those times. They offered me more help with doing some things eg preparing a meal for company, when they knew I was suffering from an OCD episode.”
“It helped immensely to watch how other family and friends went about daily activities ex: making a meal. It was also very helpful to have them remind me that I was washing to excess or to even shut the water off during my over washing.”
